Orienteering Chess was played during the last day of the
Research Camp in Mekrijärvi.
In morning, O-Mopsi orienteering was played by
specially made track with physical control flags.
Using the same flags we played few games of experimental Orienteering Chess as well.
Four games were played.

Sami Sieranoja - Elie Khoury 0-1

Rules
Player must first complete a short running task before making a chess move.
Sport chess rules applied so that a player can make his chess turn immediately
when completing the running task. The running task was a short 30m circle nearby.
After capturing a piece, player must complete an orienteering task instead of
the running task. The orienteering task was to visit any freely chosen control
point (at this point their locations were already known) and leave the captured
piece in box located there. Other times the player can choose between the running
and orienteering task.
While visiting the control points, player was allowed to bring pieces back
and put them back on the board similarly as in the
Bughouse chess.
This introduced tactics about where to bring the captured peaces.
Valuable peace might better be taken to a further away location
even if it meant longer running but also harder for the opponent
to resume the peaces. This can be especially effective if the
opponent cannot guess which place you brough his queen. But it
can also be risky since the opponent might just do running tasks
to gain tempo and gain another valuable peace meanwhile.
Due to lack of time the experience was left to four games and entire
tournament was not completed. The idea was working but would require
more practise. No much pictures of this experimental sport chess event
exists besides the control points and the O-Mopsi game itself.
