Orthogonal projections: applications of linear algebra

The first part of the course will define and study the notion of orthogonal projection on a finite dimensional subspace of a real linear space. The second part of the course will be an elementary presentation of some applications of linear algebra to different parts of applied mathematics: statistics, probability, numerical analysis. A special emphasis will be put on spline functions.
