At the beginning of the course I was a little bit shocked when I heard that the course was meant for those people, who are teaching mathematics at the University level. I'm going to teach mathematics only at junior high and high school level. But soon I realized that the course was very useful for me too.
I didn't have much experience about writing computer programs, but luckily the most of the ISETL-exercises were pretty easy. I noticed that I had forgotten some basic facts about algebra, so it was time to recall those things. I have worked with Maple earlier, so there were no difficulties in using it during the course.
I learned that ISETL is an effective tool in learning mathematics and it is usable in high school as well. I know that students learn mathematics better when they have to work with the problems and it makes learning much more fun too! It is significant that a teacher is familiar with the computer program which he is using in his teaching, otherwise nothing is going to work!
I got some ideas for cooperative learning too. I have been reading the material we got and I'm getting more and more ideas for mathematics teaching...
In the future I'd like to get more practical tips how to teach mathematics effectively and it is not possible without knowing how people learn mathematics. I wish I can do my M.Sc. Thesis in didactical mathematics and become that way a good mathematics teacher.
