I was not very hopeful about the course when I decided to take part in it. I though that if the course has something to do with teaching mathematics it can't be difficult so why not. I was totally wrong. The course had something to do with teaching mathematics but it was not for us - students. When I sat in the class at the first day I felt myself as an outsider. Most of the participants were not students and I couldn't understand most of the stuff what Ed said. There was too difficult mathematics for me. How could I understand foreign language if I don't understand the subject?!
Group works was nice. I met new people and I really think that I did understand something. But again when we got little longer I was just a stupid typewriter who did what the others said. I have been once in the algebra course and I did not like it. This method teaching algebra didn't help this feeling at all. I'm almost sure that I don't ever use this method of teaching mathematics. I was taking algebra course again this fall but when I heard that they use the Dubinsky method there I decided not to go.
Something positive of the course. Ed and She (what her name is) were very nice and it was funny to make things with them (all what I did understand). The Dubinsky method may work to someone but it's not for me. I really can't imagine myself in the same class than Sisko, Jussi, Visa and so on.
I would like to have more courses about teaching mathematics, example course about mathematical magazines which are handling teaching problems and so on.
