City of Joensuu

Joensuu is the capital of the east Finnish province North Carelia. Typical features to the Joensuu region are beautiful lakes, rivers and wild pine forests. In June, the sun is shining about 20 hours per day during a clear weather and there is light even in midnight. Joensuu has an active University with some high quality research areas including mathematics.

Travelling to Joensuu is easy: there are many direct flights (1 hour) or trains (5-6 hours) from Helsinki.

Joensuu up from the air

Answer to the question of home page:
Not really. Joensuu is still 550 km to the south of the polar circle, so strictly speaking we do not quite have the Midnight Sun. The sun goes down about 11.30 p.m. Nevertheless, during a clear weather there is enough light to have a walk in a forest at any time of night!
