Chez Michel – a superb dining experience in the heart of quaint little Creemore.
Chef’s Bio
Michel Masselin was born in Normandy and grew up in Provence. He emigrated to Toronto in 1976 and trained in the kitchens of Chez Pierot, a renowned French restaurant in the Bathurst/St. Germain area.
After refining his skills to a fine art, he took them around the world. Before long, he owned a restaurant on the Gold Coast of Australia. It was there he met Elinor Allan, a blonde New Zealander with a taste for good food
and an eye for handsome French men. The couple married and moved back to Toronto, where Michel took a job as Sous Chef at the Toronto Hunt Club. Feeling the pull of the countryside, they moved north, and
on December 1, 1989, they opened the original Chez Michel in Craigleith, across the road from Georgian Bay and near the slopes of Blue Mountain. For 16 years, the Masselins built a loyal following, with fans of
great food travelling from miles around to enjoy Chez Michel’s charming ambience and fine French cuisine. In the fall of 2005, Michel and Elinor moved the restaurant to Creemore, a picturesque village with a main street
known for quaint shops and friendly people. Their devotees followed, and joined a whole new group of people who fell in love with the fantastic food and friendly service of Chez Michel.
