With a traditional bar and contemporary lounge area, the WHBL has been extensively refurbished to the highest standard offering a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a drink after work or a fun night out with friends. ‘We aim to breathe life back into this much loved local and make it a really friendly place to come and enjoy a drink’

The WHBL is one of only two freehouses in Chelmsford, and as such is completely free of tie with any brewery. We are delighted to offer a great cellar stocked with 'real ales' sourced from local breweries, a choice of cask ales as well as a wide range of premium lagers. We have an extensive list of fine wines and champagnes served by the glass or bottle, which can be enjoyed in our comfortable stylish lounge - we think you’ll like it!

We are handily located just behind Chelmsford’s railway station in Townfield Street. The WHBL is ideal for a pre-dinner drink, before a night out at the theatre and a comfortable environment for a girls night out!
