Quality and Standards

Brunel University London is responsible for the academic standards and quality of the education that it provides.

Senate Regulations

The suite of Senate Regulations make up the University’s regulatory framework within which standards are defined and assured. SR2 and SR3 govern undergraduate and postgraduate awards respectively, and SR4 deals with a broad range of assessment and examination issues. These Senate Regulations form the core regulatory documents and are supplemented by Regulations regulating student discipline, academic appeals and collaborative provision.

Information on these Quality and Standards pages provides further details, guidance and resources about policies and processes arising from the Senate Regulations. This includes an A-Z list of quality related policies, guidelines and resources. However, this is not a comprehensive list of all University policies. Further useful information (for students in particular) is available via the Student Guide and on IntraBrunel.

External Reference Points

The University’s programmes and awards are all consistent with the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (FHEQ), which is an important national reference point for providers of UK university degrees. The fundamental premise is that qualifications should be awarded on the basis of achievement of outcomes and attainment.

The University’s processes and procedures to assure the quality of learning and teaching and the standards of the awards it confers are also aligned with the UK Quality Code for Higher Education, published by the Quality Assurance Agency, which sets out national expectations that all providers of UK higher education are required to meet.
