18th International Summer School in Novel Computing

Kuopio, Finland, August 8 - 11, 2011



The East Finland Universities Graduate School in Computer Science and Engineering (ECSE) announces the 18th International Summer School in Novel Computing. This year the courses will be arranged by the University of Eastern Finland, School of Computing, on its Kuopio Campus.

Two parallel sequences on courses will be offered, one related to Media Computing (MC) and the other related to Software Engineering (SE).

Course MC1: Fuzzy Clustering for Image Segmentation (1.5 ECTS)

The course is given by Professor Laurence S. Dooley (Department of Communication and Systems, Open University, UK).

Course MC2: 4G Security (1.5 ECTS)

The course is given by Professor Laurence S. Dooley (Department of Communication and Systems, Open University, UK).

Course SE: Research Perspectives on Software Engineering and Software Engineers (3 ECTS)

The course is given by Dr Sarah Beecham and Dr John Noll, Lero, the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre.

The course will include topics on Software Engineer Motivation, why software engineers enter the field, and software engineering processes; e.g. from Requirements Engineering processes, to global software development and Software Process Improvement, quality of Software - how to predict faults, Open Source Development, Agile practices ... a varied course, where there should be something for everyone!
