Taitokortteli/Art Corner (Koskikatu 1)
Handcraft and culture block in the center of Joensuu. The old wooden house atmosphere and shops for souvenirs and handcrafts with exhibitions and a cafe. Open: Monday-Friday 10-17:00
Jokiasema (Hasanniementie 3)
A popular meeting terrace at the end of river, good for beer, coffee, ice-cream and meeting local people. The midsummer bonfire will be here on Friday evening.
Carelicum (Koskikatu 5)
Tourist info that also has a museum of local history and culture. During the war, Joensuu served as an important airbase so you'll find some small pieces of war history. Open : Monday-Friday 9am to 5pm.
River & Lake Cruise
Daily river/lake cruises (Vinkeri) depart from river harbour at 12:00 (river), 15:00 (Pyhäselkä lake), 18:00 (river). The cruise takes 2 hours (15 €).

Visit here and meet the "city wolf", enjoy ice cream, out-door coffee (Marttakahvio & Torikahvio), fried fish (muikku), local delicates Carelian pastry (karjalanpiirakka).

About Joensuu
Joensuu is a town of 75,000 inhabitants in the lakeside Finland - the capital of green. It is famous of its peaceful nature, excellent outdoor opportunities as well as many saunas.
The city of Joensuu was founded by the Czar Nicholas I of
Russia in 1848. Today Joensuu is the capital of the region of
North Karelia and has much to offer for tourists. Joensuu is home
to numerous art galleries, museums, and many churches, both
Lutheran and Russian Orthodox. Key attractions in the city are
North Karelian Museum, the University Botanical Gardens, and the
Bunker Museum where you can check out some of the defences used by
Finland during the Winter and Continuation wars with Finland, fully
equipped with original weaponry and gear.
Located just a few minutes outside the city, the airport serves
Joensuu with direct flights to Helsinki by Finnair airlines.
The rail services to Helsinki and to other destinations are frequent,
and the city is also well connected by many bus routes. The city itself
has around 10 lines, and the stops have easy to read maps to better help
you find your way around.

The
University of Eastern Finland is a multidisciplinary
university which is internationally recognised for its competitive
research and education. The four faculties of the UEF offer teaching
in nearly 100 major subjects and degree programmes. The university's
annual student intake is approximately 2,200 and the university attracts
nearly 9,500 applications for admission every year. The university of
offers Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral level education in 12 fields of
study: pharmacy, dentistry, humanities, education, economics and business
administration, natural sciences, medicine, forest sciences, psychology,
theology, health sciences and social sciences.
