Welcome to the homepage of Lauri Mehtätalo

I am a forest modeler and biometrician, who is especially interested in problems related to forest inventory, growth and yield. I am especially interested in solutions that produce significant improvements by going beyond the basic statistical applications.

I teach courses related to mixed-effects models, sampling, and spatial statistics. I have previous experience in teaching of forest planning, too.

Since year 2002 I have used the open-source software R for almost all my research. I also use it in teaching of both theoretical and practical statisics. The R-package lmfor includes some of my own functions for forestry-related problems.

See my profiles at ResearchGate and Google Scholar.

"Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it."
  --  Henry Ford

"An academic scholar should be able to change his mind even once a day if there are good justifications for the change."
  --  Pekka Kilkki
