A) Open IBM SPSS Statistics through Desktop or Start-menu
Select Open an existing data source and click OK.
2. alternative : Click Cancel and select File->Open->Data.
Locate the folder of the data. Click the file name and click Open
Select Transform-> Recode into different variables
Select average-variable from the left side and click the arrow button.
Input a name for the variable in the Name-field (here: grade)
Click Change and Old and New Values.
Choose Range and set the range of the first class (here: 0 - 14,9).
Set a value for the class in the Value-field (here: 0), and click Add.
Set also the following classes (total=3 classes) and finally click Continue.

The situation must be as follows, before you add the last class.
Click OK.
Thus, you will see the following data:
You might want to check, if the new values are correct.
Set the grade-variable's measure as Scale through Variable View.
Save the data by selecting File -> Save or by selecting File -> Save as.
